New Language

NEW LANGUAGE has made quite the name for themselves since launching in 2016. Their powerful sound has been described as ‘high-octane rock’ meets ‘post-hardcore fury’; which is exactly what catapulted them to now have upwards of a million Spotify streams, performances at Vans Warped Tour, and supporting acts such as The Used and Gone Is Gone (feat. members of Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon, At The Drive In).
NEW LANGUAGE co-founders Tyler Demorest (vocals/guitar) and Matt Cohen (bass/backing vocals) are based in Los Angeles and the two have been writing and playing in bands together for nearly a decade, but it was in 2015 when they teamed up with songwriter/producer Tony Hajjar (At The Drive In / Sparta) and NEW LANGUAGE was born.
The band’s first single “Wake Up” debuted on Australia’s acclaimed TripleJ radio in 2016. That same year, NEW LANGUAGE also made their debut performance to a sold-out crowd at Los Angeles venue, The Dragonfly, while supporting Gone is Gone. This was immediately followed with 26 sold-out dates as direct support for The Used on their ‘In Love & Death / Self Titled’ Anniversary Tour, which sold upwards of 40K tickets and provided incredible exposure for them.
In 2017, NEW LANGUAGE released the Come Alive LP (also produced by Tony Hajjar), which included the single “Frantic Believer” that was featured on SiriusXM Octane and Las Vegas radio station X107.5. The track was also featured on Spotify’s ‘New Noise’ and ‘Totally Alt’ Playlists. Alternative Press featured NEW LANGUAGE in their Bands You Ought To Know section by saying, “Lead vocalist Tyler Demorest brings it way loud, reminiscent of early Thrice, while the weight of the bass and drums in the score shoots a nod to Queens of the Stone Age.”
Within the last year, NEW LANGUAGE have not only released their most successful track to date, with “Give In”, but the band also hosted a residency at Los Angeles venue, The Satellite, and released their Everybody Screams EP (produced by Alex Newport; Bloc Party, At The Drive In, Mars Volta, City and Colour). The title track, “Everybody Screams”, premiered on Loudwire and when played on 95.5 KLOS’ acclaimed ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’ segment it was said “Within the last year, this is the BEST band on Should I Stay or Should I Go.
Following the success of “Give In”, which has seen over 300K streams on its own, NEW LANGUAGE have recently released their second single of 2018 with “Bail Me Out”, which premiered exclusively on KROQ ahead of their Vans Warped Tour performance on opening day of the tour. Both singles are accompanied by full length music videos. The video for “Bail Me Out” features the band performing as paper cut animations was done by artist, Alberto Hernandez Merida. The band is currently in the studio finishing an EP to be released to top of 2019.
